Many of these myths do not have notable authors and no one knows who originated them. Generations and generations of people listen to these myths and take them very seriously. A myth is a story that is significant and it has staying power, they have survived centuries. Myths have many different versions, there are hero stories, stories about Gods, and religious myths. • Mythology is the study of myths. When looking back on Homer and Plato, they often said these myths were all lies and were stories to create reasoning behind situations they could not understand. Early mythologists studied myths and saw their truth to them. Many different people think that myths are not true and are all lies. Myths can be seen as a primitive representation of the subject matter it tells to talk about. Psychology also looked at myths and said that mythical characters are part of people's subconscious. We make imaginative works to shape our thoughts, feelings and actions. Myths reveal culture and other insights into the past.
  • Heroes tell us something about ourselves, we are all heroes just wanting to find our adventure and we want to find our individuality. Heroes help understand the universe and our role in it. Hero myths all share a common pattern, the monomyth has 3 parts. The three parts are; a hero separates himself from the world, the trials and victories of initiation, and the return into society. All of these parts have many sub parts that explain their journeys. The hero ends up living happily ever after and have achieved their goal.
