Week 3 Story: The Eagle and Her Human Son
This story is now in my portfolio. Portfolio.
The Eagle and Her Human Son
Once upon a time, there was a small village that lived just on the outskirts of a large forest. This small village was the home to many humans, while the forest was home to hundreds of animals. One day some other villagers came to the village and began to burn down the whole village. In the wake of this incident, all of the villagers had to flee to avoid dying. In the midst of the crisis, there was something very special left behind.
A young Eagle mother was flying above watching the horrible event take place and after all the people had vacated she decided to get closer and check out the scene to look for leftover food for her children. As she was scavenging around she began to hear a sound, but it was unlike an other animal sound she had heard. She followed the sound and to her surprise, found a very small baby boy that had been left behind in the flee. The eagle was unsure what she was to do, but being a mother she knew the only choice she had was to bring this baby home.
Many years pass and the infant is now a young boy, he plays with his other eagle brothers and still loves his mother and lives in her nest with her. On one particular day, the young boy was in the nest playing with his siblings when they heard something below them in forest. There was a man climbing up their own tree picking the tree's berries. The gatherer noticed the young boy in the nest and was beyond confused, the boy had no where to go like his siblings since he could not fly. The gatherer grabbed the boy and began to take him with him, the young boy hated this very much. The mother eagle tried to stop the gatherer but did not have enough strength to fly as far as he had walked.
The gatherer returned to his village with the young boy and gave him to his wife. The gatherer's wife was as sweet as can be and she had wanted to be a mother for so long and this finally gave her her chance.
Many years pass again and the young boy now had grown up into a man, he himself was now a gatherer for his village. One day he headed out to gather some berries and other foods for his village and he ended up near the tree he had once lived in. At the time he did not quite remember why it looked so familiar but when he approached the tree he began to hear a whimper of some sort. The gatherer found an eagle on the ground below the tree with an injured wing and the second they made eye contact they both knew who the other was, for the mother could never forget her son.
The man said, "As you once cared for me, I will now care for you." He returned to his village with his eagle mother and continued to care for her until her passing.
Author's Note: The story I used as my guide for this story was "The Wolf Mother of Saint Ailbe." I loved this story because it showed an amazing bond between human and animal. I am a huge animal lover so I used this story to help me come up with my own, instead of a wolf i chose and eagle and I chose the boy to have a different life instead of being a Saint. I used a forest and a village, instead of a mountain and a kingdom but overall it had very similar themes. The main themes of these stories was to show the love between an animal and a human.

This story is strikes a tear in my eye. It is very sweet that the man who was once the boy would return to the same tree and recognize the mother eagle who had taken care of him and to be able to now offer the same care to her now. This story is fantastic and show the idea of love matters above all. This is something I saw. you wrote her twice at the end of the 4th paragraph. I'm sorry to be a stickler like that.
ReplyDeleteHi Paige, I really enjoyed your retelling of this story! The reference story you used was actually one of the ones I chose to do for my reading as well. I am also a huge animal lover so the stories I chose to read were all from the "Saints and Animals" series. I like that you chose the mother character to be an eagle, I feel like that animal would be unexpected as a motherly figure but you played it out well.
ReplyDeleteHi Paige! The last few lines of your story are very touching. It was easy for me to feel the attachment and emotion between the man and the mother eagle, even after so much time had passed. The mentioning of the mother eagle's eventual death also affected me, knowing that the man was taking care of her until the end. I think you did a great job of conveying the emotions surrounding the relationship between the man and the mother eagle. I do wonder if the man has any thoughts of his eagle siblings that he used to play with. He seems to remember the mother eagle quite well so I feel like he have thoughts of them as well. Maybe adding some more detail about the younger eagles that acted as the man's siblings could clear up some of the mystery around what happened to them or if the man remembers them well, since he did spend a good amount of time with them when he was a boy. I enjoyed your story very much and hope to read more from you!
ReplyDeleteHey Paige! I loved your story. The story line and the way you wrote it was very creative! As I was reading, I went through many different emotions within a short time frame. I felt sad that the boy was left behind but then happy that the eagle was going to help him. I felt said again once the boy was taken from the eagle, but then happy again once he was brought to the woman. So many emotions! I loved your story, nice job!
